HIST 219 - Deb Lamb - Winter 2011: Websites

Native American history.

History Websites

As with all subjects, the number of free historical sites on the Web has proliferated.  They contain electronic versions of books, scholarly journals, magazines, newspapers, and primary documents.  The primary documents can be facsimiles of the original document as well as photographs, audio and video files, and other artifacts.

Locating the best sites, i.e., the most authoritative and scholarly, among the millions that are on the Web can be a challenge.  The importance of evaluating Web sites is often emphasized.   While many quality sites exist, there are arguably more that are amateur efforts and in some cases some that are purposefully deceptive.
