Library Research LIB-R 110–Internet Research Skills (Spring & Summer Quarters)

Cr: 2 Wkly hrs: 2 hours Lecture

An introduction to the Internet as an information resource and search tool for academic and personal use. Includes a brief history of the Internet, as well as Internet navigation techniques, search tools, website evaluation criteria, advanced search strategies and ethical/legal issues involving the use of information found on the Internet.

Prerequisite: Basic computer skills, such as e-mail, word processing.

Library Research LIB-R 180–Research for the 21st Century (Fall & Winter Quarters)

Cr: 5 Wkly hrs: 5 hours Lecture

Building skills and techniques for successful lifelong learning in an online environment, examining strategies for locating, evaluating, and applying information resources in the research process with attention to information policy issues such as censorship and freedom of information. This course may be used to fulfill the Information Literacy & Technology core ability requirement, and it counts towards the humanities distribution requirement

Prerequisite: Eligibility for ENGL& 101 and basic computer skills, such as e-mail, word processing.

NURSE 102–PubMed/CINAHL Database Search Skills (Summer Quarter)

Cr: 2 Wkly hrs: 2 hours Lecture

Prepares the learner to perform in-depth health literature database searches. Focus will be how to identify and use relevant nursing research and use of MeSH (Medical Subject Heading).

Prerequisite: Basic computer skills, such as e-mail, word processing.
