HISTORICAL FICTION

Historical fiction is set in the past and gives attention to the manners, values, and other details of the period. Authors often explore notable historical figures in these settings. Alternate history or historical fantasy--a subgenre of historical fiction--introduces speculative or ahistorical elements into a novel. Some readers consider novels written in the past, like the works of Charles Dickens, to be historical fiction as well.
