Academic Video Online (AVON)

There are TWO ways to embed an AVON film in Canvas.  The first is to find the film on the AVON site, and then copy the permalink or embed code, and then paste it into a Canvas page.  The second is to use the AVON "App" while already in the edit mode of a Canvas page.

Method One:

  • Search the AVON portal to find and select the film you'd like to show or assign.
  • Select the "Share" option
    • "Via permalink" will give you a direct URL for the film, that you can either add to Canvas or put in your syllabus.
    • "Via embed code" will give you a line of html code that you can then embed in a Canvas page, if you go to the html view when you are editing a Canvas page.

Method Two:

  • While in editing mode in Canvas, select the "Apps" icon that looks like an electrical plug. You may need to select the ellipses to see that option.  From the apps menu, select "Alexander Street Video."

  • In the app, search for a film, select the film, and then select the "Embed Medium size" option.  The film will now be embedded automatically in Canvas.

Swank

  • Search the Swank portal to find and select the film you'd like to show or assign.
  • Select the "Share" dropdown menu
    • "Copy Direct Link" will give you a direct URL for the film, that you can either add to Canvas or put in your syllabus.
    • "Copy LMS Link" will give you a line of html code that you can then embed in a Canvas page, if you go to the html view when you are editing a Canvas page.

Kanopy

  • Search the Kanopy portal to find and select the film you'd like to show or assign.
  • Select the "Share" dropdown menu
    • The "Share" tab will give you a direct URL for the film, that you can either add to Canvas or put in your syllabus.
    • The "Embed" tab will give you a line of html code that you can then embed in a Canvas page, if you go to the html view when you are editing a Canvas page.
