While some people use the term ageism to describe all age-based discrimination, others find it useful to add some nuance to the conversation by acknowledging that different age group are targeted for discrimination in different ways, especially on either end of the age continuum. For clarity, these folks use the term ageism to refer to age-based discrimination against older people and adultism or youthism to refer to age-based discrimination against young people.
