Being a first-generation college student means that your parents/guardians do not have a college degrees, and you are the first generation in your family to attend college. Even before arriving in the classroom, First Generation College Students (FGCS) often feel overwhelmed by navigating unfamiliar complexities without experienced support. This is very understandable— and we are here to help.
Olympic College understand that support for FGCS is an important part of our mission, and is an integral part of equity and inclusion. This page offers a variety of information and support for FGCS, including DREAMers.
5 quick pieces of advice for First Generation College Students-
DON'T ignore registration and financial aid deadlines and procedures.
Try sitting toward the front of your classes and join discussions.
Work to build relationships with your professors.
Seek out a variety of mentors (students, faculty, and staff) to guide you.
Locate the help you need- whether academic or personal.
