A story that really speaks to me is Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen.
Both the book and movie tell the romantic tale of a woman named Elizabeth who is too prejudiced, and a man named Mr. Darcy who is too prideful (though they each possess a healthy dose of both!). These traits lead them to become stubborn adversaries before they eventually learn to understand one another and see what is real, not what they believe. Set in regency era England, this story is filled with a wide range of personalities, including the awkwardly introverted Mr. Darcy and his joyfully open-minded best friend Mr. Bingley, stubborn Elizabeth and her amiable sister Jane, as well Elizabeth’s marriage crazed mother and the can’t-take-a-hint Mr. Collins to name some favorites.
The movie features stunning imagery, music, raw emotion, and is perfect to watch before the book to help with understanding the older style of writing.
