Many of us are accustomed to adding hypertext links to rich text using the link tool in the Rich Text Editor. (Figure 1) Unfortunately, the Link Checker tool does not check these links. As a result, our LibGuides have accumulated hundreds of broken links over the years.

To fix this problem, we need to re-think the way we add links to LibGuides. One solution might be to convert in-text links to link assets.
The example below shows an except from a guide with in-text links that are invisible to the Link Checker (Figure 2).
Figure 3 shows the same content after its redesign. Links are now visible to the link checker because they have been converted to link assets (Figure 3).
