What is anthropology?  In the widest meaning of the term, it is the scientific study of man. It is particularly concerned with human diversity. Physical anthropology is concerned with the origins and evolution of man through the examination of his fossil remains and through comparison of anatomical and physiological characteristics. Cultural anthropology is concerned with the evolution of human society and culture and with the comparison of social, linguistic, technical, and behavioral diversity. Social anthropology is the comparative study of social behavior, social organization, social forms and institutions, custom, culture, and belief. - Macmillan Encyclopedia. (2003) Basingstoke, United Kingdom: Macmillan Publishers Ltd.
