About Anthropology

Anthropology is a social science, but utilizes the humanities and sciences as well. Anthropology is divided into four subfields:

  • ​​​​Archaeology is concerned with the scientific study of the human past through material remains 
  • Cultural anthropology is the cross-cultural study of social life and culture
  • Linguistic anthropology is concerned with the study of language within the context of culture 
  • Biological (or physical) anthropology is concerned with the study of humans as biological organisms within the framework of culture, including the study of human evolution, human genetics, human biological diversity and adaptation, primatology, and the human fossil record
