LibGuide Author Style Guide

Preferred practices for LibGuide authors

OC Libraries Social Media

Our objective is to support the mission, vision, and values of Olympic College— all posts should be in keeping with that objective.

  • Posts on OC Libraries' social media accounts should be friendly and professional in tone.
    • Reply in a friendly & professional way to commenters- consult the Social Media Guidelines for more detail.
  • Our primary audience is the OC campus community and secondarily the overlapping communities with which we share space (both digital and physical); Kitsap County and Mason County residents, libraries, book lovers, and information, digital, and media literacy advocates.
  • Access— Posts must be fully accessible (alt-text for images, caption videos, CamelCase hashtags, etc) according to WCAG2 standards as mandated by federal law for all government entities.
  • Privacy/confidentiality— Students should not be identifiable from images shared on the libraries' social media and their right to inquiry should never be chilled. OC Libraries will not collect or transfer personally identifiable information via social media platforms.
  • Posts should include an on-topic visual aspect whenever possible, formatted to display attractively; centered, etc.
  • When links will be displayed, use a link shortener (with easy URLS when possible).
